Stage 10 will offer time trialist powerhouse engines a shot at a flat 42.0 km route.
Previous Stage Recap
Stage 9 from Cervia to Corno alle Scale turned into the first real showdown between the Giro’s climbers. After a long flat run‑in, the race exploded on the final 28 kilometres of rising roads, where the gradients ramped into double digits in the last three kilometres. There Jonas Vingegaard stamped his authority on the race, distancing the rest and riding the final 900 metres alone to take a clear solo victory atop Corno alle Scale. His performance underlined why many already cast him as the man in control of this Giro, even if he still did not carry the maglia rosa.
Behind, Felix Gall again proved the closest to the Dane, crossing the line second, while Davide Piganzoli sealed a strong day for Visma | Lease a Bike in third. Thymen Arensman anchored Netcompany INEOS in fourth, consolidating his solid overall position, with race leader Afonso Eulalio limiting losses in fifth. Derek Gee, Mathys Rondel and Sepp Kuss rounded out the top eight, confirming the clear hierarchy among the GC riders heading into the crucial time trial.
The Route
This coastal dash from Viareggio to Massa will unfold almost entirely on the flat, hugging the seafront promenades and low-lying roads of northern Tuscany. The opening kilometres will wind out of town along Viale dei Tigli and Viale J.F. Kennedy, with only gentle rises and dips. Through Lido di Camaiore and Marina di Pietrasanta the profile will stay benign.
Beyond Forte dei Marmi the route will remain low and level, the profile barely flickering all the way into Massa. This is a big one the larger/heavier time trial engines.
Weather
16°C | Patchy rain nearby | 12 km/h SSW
☔ 100% chance of rain — wet roads will favor cautious descending
What is interesting, is that most rain will occur in the morning/noon (according to current weather predictions). Also, the wind will turn from a cross-wind into a tailwind, favoring later starters. This might put the overwhelming favorite Filipo Ganna at a disadvantage compared to the riders who are higher on the general classification and thus have later starting times.
Contenders
Powerhouses like Filipo Ganna, Alec Segaert, Magnus Sheffield, Max Walscheid, Remi Cavagna, Niklas Larsen, Lorenzo Milese, Rémi Cavagna, will like this stage. From the general classification: Derek Gee, Jonas Vingegaard and Thymen Arensman will look to put (a lot of) time into their main rivals.
Predictions
1. ⭐⭐⭐ Filipo Ganna
2. ⭐⭐ Thymen Arensman
3. ⭐ Jonas Vingegaard
4. ⭐ Alec Segaert
5. ⭐ Magnus Sheffield
6. ⭐ Maximilian Walscheid
Predicted Winner
Filippo Ganna
Sets a blistering pace in the long flat time trial, maintaining an aero position to post the best overall time, despite some rain.
A long sequence of grinding ascents will steadily sap the legs before a demanding finale built around La Foce and the Colla dei Scioli, rewarding riders with both climbing resilience and sharp tactical sense. With fatigue from the opening week already baked in, this could be a launchpad for bold GC raids or a ruthless ambush from the breakaway specialists.
